Our commitment
Our commitment to every pupil at Cavendish School – from Year 7 onwards – is active engagement with the world of work to underpin learning and to raise academic achievements.
Our aim is to encourage curiosity and to provide encounters with a wide range of future career pathways. We expect pupils interests and expertise to change as they proceed through school life and our careers offer is built around this understanding of personal development.
We believe that by embedding employability skills and advice into every year of study -through the pastoral system, the curriculum and through extra -curricular opportunities – our pupils access the advice and skills they need to pursue their long-term ambitions.
We make no assumptions about the career paths to which our young people may aspire, and through encounters and advice, we offer every pupil the opportunity to prepare for their working life beyond school.
Careers
Would you like to help us?
If you would like an informal chat about how you could support our careers programme in school then please email cholbrook@cavendish.cet.uk You could share our careers events on your social media, you could join our alumni network of past students, you could come in and give a talk about your career and life journey so far, you could help us out with an event. Whatever it might be, we’d love to hear from you!
Howard Medway, a local (now retired) college manager, came in to help us during our ‘Mock Interview’ event. He says ‘It was really interesting to hear the different sorts of pathways that young people are thinking about pursuing. This event really helps them to understand what to expect at an interview. I really enjoyed the whole experience.’
Every student can access the following:
- Mentoring and coaching
- Our Visiting Speakers programme
- Information about the employment market – local and national
- Workplace visits and work experience placements

We actively track and encourage student involvement in our Career programme and use this information to inform future choices, resources and events we run.
We also actively encourage all students to take part in something in the school. Whether this is with a sports team, a choir, a drama group, school council or coding club, we want to ensure our pupils are learning life skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership and having fun at the same time. The list of available clubs are published at the beginning of each term.

Celebrating Success
The staff and governors of Cavendish wish to congratulate all of our Year 11 pupils for the fantastic GCSE grades they have achieved this year.
Headteacher, Peter Marchant said, "The grades that our pupils have achieved are a reflection of their hard work throughout their time at the school and they can rightly feel proud of what they have achieved through these challenging times."
