Applying to The Cavendish School – Main Round September 2025

 

Primary Phase 2025-2026 for Reception Year 2025

 

Thank you for your interest in The Cavendish School.  We understand that choosing the right school for your child is of paramount importance. The Cavendish Primary Phase is included in East Sussex County Council’s schools admissions booklet for 2025-2026 and parents are able to apply for a Reception place for their child to start here in September 2025. 

Reception Year – for children born between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021.

Children whose fifth birthday falls after 31 August 2026 will not, under any circumstances, be admitted to school in 2025-2026 school year.

All main round applications to The Cavendish School must be made via the Local Authority – East Sussex County Council (ESCC). Their on-line application form can be accessed by clicking this link alternatively; a paper form can be requested from the Local Authority instead. For further information about the admissions process, there is a Local Authority Admissions Booklet accessible by clicking this link.  You can apply online from 12 September 2024.

The deadline for applications with the Local Authority is 15 January 2025. The decision date is 16 APRIL 2025 = Allocation Day / National Offer Day.

Verification

In the event of over-subscription the school may seek verification of address when it is unclear whether the applicant meets the over-subscription criteria. Proof of residence e.g. council tax bill and proof of identity may be required.  The Governing Body reserves the right to seek verification from other official resources.

False or misleading information that materially affects the decision to award a place will result in the withdrawal of that place.  If the place has been awarded, accepted, or taken up, that play may still be withdrawn.

 

Waiting Lists

The Cavendish School is responsible for operating a waiting list for each year group where there are more applicants than places available. The waiting list is ordered, using our published ‘Oversubscription criteria’. Details of the ‘Oversubscription criteria’ can be found in The Cavendish School Admissions Policy Page Point 7 Cavendish Academy Trust Admission arrangements. If you have received a letter from Cavendish School denying your child a place because of lack of spaces, you can apply to go onto the waiting list by contacting us directly either by phone, letter or email admissions@cavendish.cet.uk .  You will need to complete a Waiting List Application Form.  If a place becomes available and you are top of the waiting list you will be sent a letter from The Cavendish School inviting your child to take up the place. Please note our waiting lists are automatically cleared after Christmas and Easter and the Summer term. You will need to contact the school in order to stay on the list.

Appeals

If you have been refused a place at The Cavendish School you have the right to have your case considered by an independent appeal panel. The best way to submit an appeal is online: https://apps.eastsussex.gov.uk/educationandlearning/schools/findingaschool/appeals/form/

The appeal deadline for children starting in the Primary Phase in September 2025 (for Reception Year) is Tuesday 20 May 2025.

When do appeal hearings take place?

Appeals to be heard throughout June until Tuesday 22 July 2025.

 

For In-year appeals

Deadline for receipt of appeals: Parents have within 25 school days of the date of a letter confirming the decision to refuse an application. Appeal Hearings to take place: in-year appeals must be heard within 30 school days of receipt.

Notification of the date, time and venue for the appeal hearing.

ESCC will send you notification confirming when your appeal will be heard by an independent appeal panel. ESCC will give you at least 10 school days written notice of the date of the hearing, unless you’ve agreed to a shorter notice period.  The information should also confirm the deadline for parents to submit additional information.

Deadline for additional evidence to be submitted.

You should send ESCC all your evidence supporting your case when you make your appeal. However, you can send any extra evidence to ESCC up to 7 working days before the date of the hearing (not including the day of despatch or the day of their hearing).  You can send additional evidence after this deadline or bring extra items with you on the day of your hearing but the appeal panel may decide not to accept this late evidence.

Submitting extra evidence late can sometimes lead to your hearing being adjourned, or even postponed to another day.
ESCC will normally send you a decision letter which sets out the reasons for the panel’s decision within five school days of your hearing; it can take longer at busy times.

Applying to The Cavendish School – Main Round Secondary Phase 2025-2026

Year 7 September 2025

Thank you for your interest in The Cavendish School. We understand that choosing the right school for your child is of paramount importance. The Cavendish Secondary Phase is included in East Sussex County Councils’ Schools admissions booklet for 2025-2026 and parents are able to apply for a Year 7 place for their child to start here in September 2025. The Published Admission Number for September 2025 will be 120 Year 7 pupils (The total in the year group will be 180,  which includes 60 moving up from the Primary Phase here at Cavendish).
